Bag Item Number: 3031/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Large woven string bag (bilum). Bag is constructed of plant fibre string, loosely woven in order to allow the bag to be expandable. Its shape is wide at the shoulder, narrowing toward a rounded bottom. The mouth is wide, edged with a wrapped stich. The bag is coloured in stripes of a variety of pinks, purple, green and tan. The upper two corners of the bilum extend into long handles, unattached, that each culminate in a variety of cotton fabrics, plain, coloured and patterned, tied to the handle ends. Small bits of dyed pink feather down are intertwined in the thread at the centre front.
