Description

Door panel made from one piece of wood carved with highly stylized birds, crocodiles, antelope and snakes arranged above and below a crocodile figure at the centre. A cylindrical element protrudes both at the top and bottom on one side. The wood has been coated with a wax-like substance to create a dark brown finish.

History Of Use

Used for granaries, or for the storehouses of chiefs, in which case the carved symbols would carry significance as social insignia. (R. Goldwater).
