Beads Item Number: Sf674 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
157 globular and biconical golden beads of the same approximate size strung on synthetic monofilament. They are constructed of two half spheres of metal that are forced together at the equator. Many of the beads have a darkened tarnish overlaying the golden surface. A number of the beads have holes or breaks, particularly along the seam. The stringing holes are roughly punctured.
These beads may be from a variety of necklaces and adornments that were used in both life and funereal contexts. There are several styles and alloys present. These types of beads often have Chimu associations (north coast, 750-1476 C.E.) but they may not be limited to the Chimu Style.
Pre-Conquest, before 1532 C.E.
