Description

Piece of yellow (originally) slit tapestry border. Detailed bird forms, with a long hooked beak and comb-like tail feathers are attached to step triangles and repeated in alternating shades of reds and yellows. The bird has an outlined eye and this same form is repeated in the corners of the triangles. Narrow red borders outline the bird pattern band. The tapestry figures are not outlined. Z-spun, 2 plied s yarns; a few red threads z-spun.

History Of Use

Possibly a border fragment from a poncho, shirt or loincloth. The extended use of the outlined eye form is found on a number of fabrics from Pachacamac (Schmidt, p.497). The yarn spin of warp and weft is consistent with central coast tapestry.
