Description

Mottled wood shaft cut through and joined near the mid-point. Dowel visible at the join which is inserted into both sections of the shaft. Leaf-shaped spearhead hammered around the shaft and secured with a nail. Pointed metal butt flattened at the shaft end and hammered around the shaft. Band of iron coiled around shaft below point.

Used for hunting.

Spears usually made by local iron monger. Shaft cut and re-joined by collector to ease transportation to North America.
