Vertical painting on a scroll. Painted image shows a rock outcrop; white, red, violet flowers with green foliage coming out from rock base; all on a dark ochre background. Long inscription at upper right concluding with a date (equivalent to 1672) and artist's signature. The scroll mounting is damaged.
Decorative wall hanging.
secular art
The inscribed date places the painting in the early years of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and is by a well-known artist of the time, Yun Shou-P'ing (1663-1690), one of the so-called six orthodox masters. However the quality of the execution is not consistent with the known work of the artist so it is thought to be a later copy.
