Ornament Item Number: Sf766 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

A sheet metal cone with an unfastened seam. There is a single punched hole opposite the seam near the apex. A strap-like metal staple passes through the hole near the apex and a second nearby hole. There are two diametrically opposite holes near the base. These have an offset position from the seam and staple. Some small areas of gilded surface visible.

History Of Use

Similar cones were found at the Loma Negra site in the Vicus area. Schaffer suggests the Loma Negra cones may have been attached to the ends of sashes and headbands. Several of the cones in this collection have remnants of staples in the apex hole which suggests they may have been attached to or suspended from something metal.
