Description

A multi-coloured belt composed of orange, purple, light red/purple, yellow pieces of fur and fleece. These pieces are sewn together on a piece of animal hide. Both ends contain a woolen brown and white braided tassel, knotted with loose threads at end.

History Of Use

The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials. This belt is used in a women's dance, where each end of the belt is held in opposite hands. It was used in a Tinta dance seen in Auzca, performed by the folkloric ballet.
