Description
Belt with one end tapered. Other end is finished in seven braids brought to a taper. Woven, patterned ties on each end. Narrow bands in chain link design; green and yellow strips near outer edges, and yellow, purple and white in middle, on pink and red similar design background. Edges have purple and white borders.
History Of Use
The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials. This belt is worn around the waist, especially on men's high-waisted trousers. The dark red/white colour and diamond-in-warp pattern is typical of Tinta.
