Plaque Item Number: Sf592 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

A round, gilded metal plaque with a raised centre. Two holes near the edge in the same quadrant of the disc. There is a lightly incised design in a slightly recessed border around the raised centre.

History Of Use

This disc is very similar in form to one described in Lechtman (Fig.2) which is made of a tertiary alloy of copper, silver and gold, and given a golden surface by the technique of deplection gilding. The use of such discs is not clear although the holes suggest they were attached to some backing or suspended.
