Blade Item Number: Sf515 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

A rounded blade with a socketed shaft. The shaft is a thick-walled cylinder with a lengthwise irregularity on one side. A few flecks of gilding visible on surface.

History Of Use

The weight of the blade and the use marks indicate this was a functional implement which was hafted to a handle; probably used in agriculture.

Narrative

Chimu or Lambayeque, Late Intermediate Period, 1000-1476 C.E. The temporal extent of such blades may be greater than lechtman suggests as there are Vicus examples as well (Lumbreras).
