Description

Triangular yellow metal embossed plaque with humanoid face, sun-like design above face on semi-circular headdress, and step-like designs below face to rounded point at bottom. There are also three sets of two holes punctured through the metal.

History Of Use

Sheet metal ornaments with gold surfaces were used to decorate clothing and headdresses as well as furnishings.

Lambayeque or Chimu, Late Intermediate Period; 900-1476 C.E.

Iconographic Meaning

The overall shape of the plaque is of a feather. The figure is a head of a major Lambayeque-Chimu deity figure with corona headdress and tear drop shaped eye.
