Description

Brown and white double cloth with warp-wise stripes of bird motifs alternated with solid coloured stripes. Two types of bird designs are alternated: birds in rotational symmetry sharing the same beak and long beaked birds in diamonds with hook outlines. Weft-wise bands of solid colour at both ends. Three selvedges, including one with heading cord, are present. One cut end. Z-spun, two plied s yarns.

History Of Use

Possibly a shroud or shirt fragment. Some evidence of overlapping and sewing to another cloth about 5 cm. from the warp selvedge.
