Description

A hollow wooden balance, elliptical in cross-section, that tapers slightly towards each end. The opening is larger at one end and the wall thickness varies around each opening. Two holes, equidistant from each end, are drilled through the bar wall.

History Of Use

The balance bar from a scale. In use, the bar would have been suspended by cords through the closely spaced holes. Pans or nets would have hung from the ends.
