Description

Cast brass male figure (part a) with loin cloth, conical hair or headdress, and necklace. Holding a detachable candle holder (parts b and c) in each hand. He is standing on a flat, oval base. In front of this figure is a holder and detachable ashtray (part d) with a bird-like head, and tail, and an engraved leaf design on the outer surface. All bright yellow metal.

Specific Techniques

Cast by waste mould process. The technique of metal by cire perdue was brought from Asia to Africa and is known in the Bamum-Tikar area from the 9th century (Leuzinger).
