Description

Seal made of a single piece of bronze, shaped like a flattened cube with slightly rounded corners, with handle in shape of bearded man on horseback. Man and horse are elongated and stylized. Incised under base are characters in seal character style; around them is red ink. Bronze has dark brown patina.

History Of Use

Used as a stamp to imprint characters on documents, paintings, etc., using a red ink made from a sticky vegetable dye. The use of the seals originated in China. The seal is used in place of a personal signature.
