Description
Fly whisk of light coloured horse hair with the handle bound in thin dark brown leather. A leather strap forms a loop from the end of the handle and there is a leather fringe where the handle meets the horse hair. The loop is decorated with long parallel stripes of dyed and incised lines and the fringe has dyed black parallel lines overall.
History Of Use
Leather goods are produced and traded over a wide area of Sub-Sahara West Africa. Fly whisks are an ubiquitous part of indigenous culture over the entire area, carried by elders or men of rank as a badge of status
