Description

Gold Buddha figure with pointed headdress seated cross legged on a green lotus, sitting on a brown pedestal. The right hand is flat on lap with palm upturned, left hand and arm extends over legs. Incised curvilinear decoration on sides of pedestal base; figure has elongated earlobes.

Iconographic Meaning

Buddha is seated in 'adamantine pose' with soles of both feet facing up. This posture is known as 'vajrasana'. The right hand is in the attitude of 'calling the earth to witness' or 'subduing Mara'.
