Description

Collapsible fan with 17 ivory inner ribs and two outer ribs with a carved iris design. The fan is covered on one side with stiffened white silk painted with irises and birds in green, purple, white, black, silver and grey. The ribs are fastened with silver coloured metal rivet and a u-shaped metal loop to which is attached a knotted cord of twisted white silk ending in two tassels.

History Of Use

Summer fans, round or folding, can be carried throughout the summer by men or women. The folding fan is seen more often at theatre or on the street as it can be tucked into the kimono or obi more easily.
