History Of Use

Semi-sheer head cloths are found folded on top of the heads of central coast mummies (Tsunoyama). They are found in simple and elaborate burials and were probably worn on the head during life as well. They are presumed to be women's head cloths (Rowe). A great variety of semi-sheer head cloths, made by diverse techniques have come from the looted graves of the Chancay area. This one has richer, more varied colours than most.
