Description

Carved wood figure of a human with arms folded against the chest so that the hands are upraised and the legs broken off and trimmed at the knee. A small hole extends from the back of each knee to the front. Face has grooved, circular, dark blue eyes with dark blue brows above, a plain triangular nose, and a wide protruding mouth. Hair has been engraved at the back of the head which has a cap on top. Painted features in blue, green. and yellow with detailing including dark hair, a yellow face, a yellow shirt that has dark blue buttons and arm bands, and dark blue suspenders and trousers.

Narrative

Said to have been found by the donor in a frog pond, in a wilderness area near Oak Bay, B.C. Facial carving suggests a possible Nuu-chah-nulth origin. Might represent a European man?
