Description

White beads woven flat with two alternating geometric motifs evenly spaced, repeated at intervals down length; one is green bordering yellow, the other is dark blue bordering red. To finish off, ends with last two rows light blue are woven together. Then warps individually strung with white then blue beads; all brought through large pink bead and ended in two looped white and light blue strands.

Glass trade beads, first introduced by Europeans to North American Native groups, in the east, circa 1675. Had an impact on aspects of economic and aesthetic activity. Designed and stitched by women. Beadwork made for own family use. Before prominence of tourist art. Necklaces worn both by men and women,either ornamental, as charms or those with special meanings.
