Description

A piece of red slit tapestry with parts of three frontal humans in horizontal row. They are yellow, red, black and white but in varying proportions. They wear an elaborate headdress and a flaring tunic. Feet are splayed and arms and hands are raised. Yellow and black stripes with an interlocking red spiral make up the border on two sides. Parts of three finished edges are present.

History Of Use

The technical features are consistent with Chancay tapestry weaving (Rowe 1980). The figure and its particular stance is also typical of Chancay (Rowe 1977, fig. 20).
