Description

Cylindrical, light brown hardwood stool carved from one piece; hollowed core; smooth polished seat and open base. deep and polished medium brown. Three rings of diamond shape openings encircle the body and one of half diamond openings the base and seat rims. A small circle or spot of light natural colour protrudes in each area where the strips of the design crisscross. Inner surface is rough and unstained. Outer surface of body is stained dull black. Splash of dull red on base rim.

History Of Use

Carved stools were used by members of the ruling class. Traditionally, each leader had his own stool carved at the beginning of his reign to meet the demands of his lineage totem and to please his personal taste.
