Description

Straw hat painted black: high crown, flattened top that rises slightly in the centre, concave sides tapering into base. Banded by a length of green brocaded silk ribbon with a multicoloured floral pattern; ribbon fastened with a large safety pin.

History Of Use

Hat is distinctive of official or ceremonial dress. Worn by members of a Cofradia (religious society). The silk ribbon has replaced the traditional brocaded textile as a hatband.
