Description

Cylinder-shaped wooden drum, partially hollowed out. Two rectangular cut slits are notched along the circumference of each end. Two diamond-shaped extensions, possible handles. Burnt designs in circular and paddle shapes on body and extensions, burnt outlining at slits and ends. Roughly finished.

History Of Use

African slit drums are percussion instruments often devoted to making speech-like sounds, for signalling purposes, therefore called 'talking drums'.
