Description
Rectangular textile of woven cotton, striped fabric sample with pinked edges. Stripes vary in width. Repeating sets of stripes; red with white and wider brown to either side; yellow with thinner black and orange to either side; purple with several orange and black to either side. White adhesive tag reads '18'.
History Of Use
This sample is from a plain weave textile, woven on a commercial treadle loom. Men operate these looms in co-operative or factory enterprises. These textiles are produced mainly for skirts, shawls, and shirts. Although textile patterns were formerly distinguishable between towns, adaptation of patterns from town to town, makes establishing the origin of a modern commercial textile virtually impossible (Anderson).
