Description

Skirt made of two rectangles of blue cotton with an embroidered, insertion stitched yellow, pink and white band (randa) running horizontally along the centre. The blue fabric is interrupted every so often with two white stripes running vertically. The ends of the fabric are joined together with a vertical French seam.

History Of Use

Tubular skirts are wrapped around the hips and worn with a belt or sash. The skirt material is commercially woven on a treadle loom. The randas (seam bands) are hand embroidered and often distinguishable between villages. Horizontally striped skirt cloth is called 'cortes sencillos'.
