Description

Rectangular textile of woven cotton; striped fabric sample with pinked edges. Pattern consists of band of black stripes with one thin black stripe on either side repeat over red ground with other stripes; x and cross pattern band in both blue and white along with green and yellow checked bands. White adhesive tag has '34' written in black felt.

History Of Use

This sample is from a plain weave textile, woven on a commercial treadle loom. Men operate these looms in co-operative or factory enterprises. These textiles are produced mainly for skirts, shawls, and shirts. Although textile patterns were formerly distinguishable between towns, adaptation of patterns from town to town, makes establishing the origin of a modern commercial textile virtually impossible (Anderson).
