Description

Rectangular textile of woven cotton; striped fabric sample with pinked edges. Repeating pattern consisting of evenly spaced bands of red and white alternating with green and yellow checkered band, two orange stripes along with yellow and green bands. History Of Use

This sample is from a plain weave textile, woven on a commercial treadle loom. Men operate these looms in co-operative or factory enterprises. These textiles are produced mainly for skirts, shawls, and shirts. Although textile patterns were formerly distinguishable between towns, adaptation of patterns from town to town, makes establishing the origin of a modern commercial textile virtually impossible (Anderson).
