Textile Item Number: Sa317 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Rectangular textile of woven cotton; striped fabric sample with pinked edges. Stripes vary in width. Repeating stripe pattern consisting of wide bands of orange along with thin bands of orange, white and red on a blue ground. White adhesive tag has '38B written in black felt.
This sample is from a plain weave textile, woven on a commercial treadle loom. Men operate these looms in co-operative or factory enterprises. These textiles are produced mainly for skirts, shawls, and shirts. Although textile patterns were formerly distinguishable between towns, adaptation of patterns from town to town, makes establishing the origin of a modern commercial textile virtually impossible (Anderson).
