Description
Turquoise stone in heavily ornamented brass-like setting surrounded by small bosses and distinguished by a cluster of four brass knobs at the base. It is mounted on a rounded open band of brass-like metal which is closely ridged all around. At the opening, one end has a cup-like ornamentation while the other end is pointed. Small metal loop is positioned at the base of the setting.
History Of Use
Most Ladakhi men wear one or two earrings of this type. They are made of copper alloy and decorated with a turquoise chip. They are identical to Tibetan earings. The weight of these earrings necessitated the addition of a string over the top of a man's ear, strung from a small loop of metal positioned at the base of the setting.
