Description

Small squat lekythos with a flaring mouth, a thin tubular neck, a rounded body, and a short foot, and a handle that extends from the base of the mouth to the shoulder. Painted witha palmette motif in black.

History Of Use

Jar for containing oil which is used instead of soap. It is applied to the body and scraped off. This jar is a miniature version used as an offering to the dead in burials. Size suggests it was worn on the wrist and the quality suggests it belonged to a middle class family.
