Description

Grey clay, ceramic sherd with a red slip; rectangular in shape; slightly widened at outturned lip. The surface has two, thick black lines painted on it in a partial square shape. The underside has a black band running across the bottom with traces of a second detailed at the edge.

History Of Use

Pre-Columbian Costa Rica was part of the transitional zone between the traditions of Meso America and South America. Influences from both areas are evident with the most powerful and extensive coming from the north, particularly for the Pacific area. This appears to be from a large vessel.
