Description

Jacket, children's, with black trim appliqued on all edges and on the two lower front pockets. Black wool lines are appliqued along all edges and on the pockets, sleeves and back crest designs. Black rickrack is appliqued along the front and bottom edges. On the back is a stylized representation of a bat in black yarn.

Iconographic Meaning

Bats are the symbols of the Cakchiquels whose ruling house was the Xahila Clan of Bats (shaeffer). This tradition dates back to pre-Conquest rulers.
