Description

Twined basket with two braided handles and a braided rim. Bottom is spiral twine with a dark brown circular band. Basket is decorated with two horizontal bands of greys, yellow, and dark brown elements and trimmed in brown bark.

History Of Use

Baskets were used for carrying, storage and cooking. Women and girls made and used baskets. Since they were important wealth items, the ability to produce high quality baskets was an asset.

This Kalapuya basket combines traditional weave with the double handles of baskets made for sale.
