Ankle-wrap moccasins, each with vamp and cuff beaded in a multi-coloured floral design with blue and white border.

History Of Use

Ideal footwear for the arctic. Moccasins are both flexible and warm. In winter, several pairs could be worn, one on top of the other. Moccasins are an item of clothing still made and worn today. Since traditional times, decoration has become more elaborate.

Narrative

Collected by Grace Adam between 1950 and 1965. Said to have been made by a tuberculosis patient at the Charles Camsell Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta.
