Description

Carved from a single piece of wood. Crutch handle has adze marks. Flat shaft, rounded at the grip, narrowing, then widening to form a lanceolate blade. Central ridge runs from the grip to the point. Both sides are painted in black and red two-dimensional design of u's, split u's, and an ovoid. Black band is on the handle and the blade tip. One side is heavily varnished while the other side is light.

History Of Use

Used to paddle canoe when travelling or hunting. Blade's shape allowed quiet approach to sea mammals and often served as a club when alongside prey.
