Description

Medium wicker work basket with a raised foot. Diagonal supplementary weaving in light yellow-brown over parts of the basket, creating two upward pointing pairs of chevrons, one at either side, surrounded by an elongated vertical zig zag and a vertical band comprising diagonal stitches at either side. Foot is wrapped and plaited about 1 inch high. The handle is two strips of tightly wrapped grasses. Two vertical rows of cord are sewn in long stitches at the ends of the handles.

History Of Use

Made by men and women and used for many domestic carrying and storage needs, such as, collecting, transporting and storing agricultural produce. For storage, baskets are kept above ground to protect them from damp and rodents.
