Description

Miniature winnowing basket. Shallow, and round. Twilled, and plaited in light yellow, and brown cane fibres with a hoop under the rim (in and out). Border is plain wrapped with light yellow-white plant fibre. Wrapped hook on one side with a cane strip, round, and stiff, with tie.

History Of Use

Miniature version of a winnowing basket made for sale to tourists. Winnowing baskets are used for rice and millet and are usually made by men. They are made for temporary use are abandoned or discarded after use. Various grasses, rattan, palm, cane, raffia, bamboo, etc., are used.
