Description

Miniature bedstead (part a) of seven long flat half reeds. Nine horizontal round sticks hold the top of the reeds with bamboo strips in four places (coiled). Four sticks form sides, of which the bed rests on three, resulting in a slant, the direction of which slant is determined by which leg it is resting on. Mat (part b) rests on the bed. Mat plait is twilled with wrapped, and coiled borders.

History Of Use

Miniature bedstead made for sale to tourists. These bedsteads are made by men. 3 regular beds are usually found in each house complex. They are usually covered with mats of grasses or palm leaf fibre. Sometimes they are covered with skins.
