Description
Blue and dark red machine made cotton textile has been hand embroidered and hand sewn. Partially lined with light green floral print cotton fabric. Two large orange squares below bustline, decorated with metal thread, and other traditional stylized designs, both floral and geometric, are inset with small pieces of mirror. Extensive use of chain, buttonhole, plain, satin, and square stitches in orange, blue, green white, black, red, and silver.
History Of Use
Front section of a wedding blouse or 'choli' and an example of the finest embroidery done in India today. Design is traditional to area of northwestern India. Cloth is sometimes referred to as 'cutch bharat' embroidery. Young women usually create these for their own wedding costumes and as examples of their domestic skill. Blouse is usually finished with 4-5 cm. wide section on each side for support and is worn leaving back bare. Costume is completed with skirt, ghaghra.
