History Of Use

Weft ikat dyed textiles of Orissa are considered to be technically outstanding. Typical Orissa ikat patterns have relatively smooth outlines because of small sets of identically patterned weft yarns. Traditional Orissa ikats are large, mostly for saris, door hangings, and shawls. The chaddar is the most common type of outdoor garment worn during short winter seasons in India, on cool mornings or evenings. This chaddar was purchased in Puri.
