Description

Purse-like carrying basket with two wrapped loop handles. Has the shape of a round rectangle and is coiled with bifurcated stitches, also having slat bottom and sides. Cedar with imbricated design in grass and wild cherry bark in geometric motifs. Diamond shaped motif on the two ends with arrow shapes on the two sides.

History Of Use

The gradual change in the nature of basketry traditions from the 1820's to the 1940's is seen in the decline of utilitarian baskets in favour of those made for sale.
