Description

Coiled burden basket with bifurcated stitches on a bundle foundation. Basket is narrow at base, gradually widening to top opening. Alternating imbricated pattern of grass ? and cherry bark. Interior is stained. One side has a notch cut away from the top edge (central). There are three pieces of cotton cord tied through the basket at one end, and on either side near the same end.

History Of Use

Women's carrying basket. These baskets were worn on the back with a tumpline strap across the chest or forehead. They were used for carrying berries, roots and other gathered food stuffs.
