Description

Plain, unornamented basket. The warp cane strips radiate out from the centre with the woof strips weaving in and out in a very simple weave. Around the top several strips of cane have been lashed on in several places on the outside and inside of the basket to bind the warp strips. The top row has been closely coiled with a fine strip of cane to finish the basket.

History Of Use

This type of basket (plain) is used in Orissa for measuring grain. Cane has been adapted for a wide usage of domestic utensils such as storage, carrying, and measuring.
