Description
Shallow basketry tray woven of grass, natural and dyed, in shades of red, green, yellow, and blue. Design is over-woven with coloured fillets of grass in natural, green, yellow, and red, in form of outward radiating star shape. Background is filled in with blue. Around circular bottom is row of red. Rising sides are woven in red and natural grass inverted triangular shapes, above which a row of green and one of alternating yellow and orange bands finish the basket.
History Of Use
This is an ornamental basketry tray made for market sale. It represents part of Mithila's growing handicrafts industry.
