History Of Use

Contemporary basket style. Basket making has a very long history in the southwest. Traditionally willow was the most common basket making material, however, the wider leaved yucca has replaced willow for most baskets made for sale. The wider leaves cut production time. Simpler designs are also employed for these baskets. The Papago also weave baskets in a variety of shapes, rather than strictly traditional styles.
