Description
Fine hand-woven shawl of silk and cotton fibres. Natural colour. Raw silk slub visible as dark specks throughout. Narrow end bands as borders are in lighter shade and may be cotton threads. Marked with stamp '67' plus a few illegible letters.
History Of Use
The shawl is the most common type of outer garment worn in India during the short winter season, on cool mornings or evenings. This one was purchased at a market stall near Jagannath Temple. Shawls in many sizes and qualities and other goods are sold from carts to pilgrims and tourists.
