Description

Bronze representation of a Northwest Coast human face mask, attached at a 45 degree angle to a black with white speckled stone base by two bronze screws located on either side of chin; screws fit into holes drilled into base; hammered finish; uneven dark patination. Face is finely defined except eyes, brows clearly delineated, convex eyes, flat nose with defined nostrils; prominent mouth with continuous lip band. On reverse, signed J. David.

Inspiration for this sculpture may have come from the stone 'unseeing' mask at the Canadain Museum of History (VII-C-329).
